What is the narrative arc of the universe? Does it just expand until all the energy is spent, resulting in heat death? Or does it Bang and Crunch and Bang again? Is there equilibrium in duality? Or is there a greater gestalt above and beyond that duality? Nostradamus certainly had his opinions. Jessie and his grand-nephew Arjun, named for Arjuna of the Bhagavad Gita, have theirs.
CHASING SYNTROPY is an absurdist southern gothic tale inspired by the polyphonic structure of William Faulkner and the tone, settings, and themes of Cormac McCarthy, stretching across four generations into a future of hurricanes, cyber-warfare, rogue AI, and nuclear holocaust. But really it’s about ecology, fatherhood, disability, and loss. It starts with a shock as Jesse bites down on an electric fence and like concentric ripples in Basho’s old pond, the explosions get bigger and bigger until the whole world is engulfed in flame.
Capturing the current zeitgeist, CHASING SYNTROPY is a work with classic Americana themes set in a global context. The narrative runs with a fractal symmetry that leads to a deeper truth: dark energy is not a constant after all, and heat death is not inevitable.
